The flat and round to kidney-shaped blade of this species arises from a distinct short stem connected to holdfast, which is bulbous and approximately 10 cm long. The blade margin is finely fibrous. The branching of the blade filaments is dichotomous with constrictions at branching parts. This seaweed is found on fine sandy surfaces in lower intertidal to subtidal zones along calm shorelines.

Fresh specimen.
