Furrow bottom seeding to accelerate crop growth under the arid regions

Country
China

Description

[Synopsis]

The experiments were conducted in Fukang, located in an arid region at the southern border of the Kurbantonkut desert in Xinjiang Province, China. Where, seeds were sown in the V-shaped furrow bottoms of 5 cm deep. The furrow bottom seeding accelerates seed germinations and early plant growths. The technique can save 25 to 30 mm of irrigation water within one month after seeding. Under furrow bottom, soil contains much water and its maximum temperature is lower than the traditional flat bed. Salt accumulation in soil under the furrow bottom delays due to the evaporation decreasing. Under the furrow in the north-south direction, young plants are shaded in the early morning and the late evening.
