Analysis of mechanical properties of collapsible soils and development of a quantitative method

Country
Thailand

Description

[Synopsis]

The mechanical properties of the collapsible soils distributed in Northeast Thailand were investigated by using a triaxial compression test apparatus, oedometer and pressure plate test apparatus. A method for estimating the amount of collapse by using the elastoplastic model for unsaturated soils was also developed. Comparison of the experimental and estimated data of volume change due to the collapse showed that both agreed well. This method is suitable for the estimation of volume change due to collapse.
