Soil properties in the desert region
Description
[Synopsis]
Arid land soils in Turpan display on early stage of pedogenesis. They contain a small amount of organic matter and high levels of exchangeable cations. Soil formation was markedly affected by the topography. Under arid conditions, soil water moves to the surface through the profile, and evaporates to leave salts on the surface. In particular, high ground water level facilitates the accumulation of salts.
