Some of the trees are over 100 years old, and this row of trees was designated as a cultural asset by Ishigaki City in 2010.
The windbreak surrounding Tropical Agricultural Research Front of JIRCAS is also mainly composed of yarabu trees, which are about 50 years old and have been maintained as a windbreak since the institute was first established.
