In the old days of Ibaruma, fishermen used to carry their boats according to the weather, deciding whether to fish from the Pacific Ocean side (east) or the East China Sea side (west). In Ishigaki Island, "Hari Festival" (celebrating the sea god) is held on the 4th day of the 5th lunar month. In Ibaruma, the "Funakuya Hari Festival" is held at Funakoshi Fishery Port.
