On January 10, 2024, the first meeting of the Platform for the Implementation of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Agriculture was held online, with JIRCAS serving as the secretariat.

The virtual meeting attracted about 40 participants from member organizations and observers of the Platform. Program Director HAYASHI Keiichi gave the opening remarks, setting the stage for the meeting. Senior Researcher MINAMIKAWA Kazunori then gave a presentation on the prospects of using MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) methodologies for rice paddy water management.

Subsequently, each participating organization showcased its initiatives, focus areas, and expectations for the platform. Valuable insights were provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF), followed by a Q&A session.

In order to promote information sharing and facilitate collaboration, the Platform plans to convene three to four meetings annually. These meetings will serve as forums for members to share information and explore opportunities for co-creation, with the ultimate goal of advancing bilateral credit systems in the agricultural sector of developing countries.

Organizations interested in participating in and contributing to the agricultural bilateral credit system are encouraged to join the Platform's efforts.
