On October 26, 2020, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released the "State of the Climate in Africa 2019", a multi-agency report that highlights the current and future state of the climate in Africa. According to the report, increasing temperatures and sea levels, changes in precipitation patterns, and more extreme weather are threatening human health, food and water security and socio-economic development in Africa.

JIRCAS cooperates with local partners in agricultural research such as crop development, cultivated land use system, and sustainable natural resource management including water and soil, with the aim of improving resilience to climate change in developing countries. In the context of climate change, where uncertainty will increase in the future, it is necessary to increase resilience at the regional level through the widespread dissemination of these technologies. For that purpose, collaboration between research institutes and development / dissemination institutions is becoming more and more necessary.

At the JIRCAS International Symposium 2020 scheduled online on November 10, we plan to hold a panel discussion on how cooperation should be in international agricultural development. Please join us.
