134. Progress Report on Food and Agriculture-related SDG Indicators 2020

The food and agriculture-related SDG targets under the jurisdiction of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are Goal 2 (zero hunger), Goal 5 (gender equality ), Goal 6 (clean water and sanitation), Goal 12 (responsible consumption and production), Goal 14 (life below water), and Goal 15 (life on land). The second report on the indicators for the 6 SDGs under FAO custodianship “Tracking progress on food and agriculture-related SDG indicators 2020” was published on September 15, 2020.

The first edition published in 2019 reported that it would be difficult to meet most of the food and agriculture-related SDGs by 2030. This year, the impact of COVID-19 has made it not only more difficult to achieve the SDGs, but it has also become even more difficult to keep track of the achievements of the SDGs.

Due to COVID-19, census of agricultural activities has been delayed, postponed or suspended in more than half of the countries, and almost all data collection conducted by the government is affected in about 25% of the countries participating in the assessment. FAO is also pursuing various initiatives to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on food and agriculture using other data sources.
