Italy (Italian: Italia [iˈtaːlja] ), officially the Italian Republic (Italian: Repubblica Italiana), is a unitary parliamentary republic in Europe. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Italy shares open land borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, San Marino and Vatican City. Italy covers an area of 301,338 km2 (116,347 sq mi) and has a largely temperate seasonal climate or Mediterranean climate; due to its shape, it is often referred to in Italy as lo Stivale (the Boot). With 61 million inhabitants, it is the third most populous EU member state.

Delegation from Italy’s CREA and ISMEA Visits JIRCAS

On March 10, 2026, Prof. Andrea Rocchi, President of the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA), and Mr. Sergio Marchi, Director General of the Institute of Services for the Agricultural and Food Market (ISMEA), visited JIRCAS and exchanged views with President KOYAMA Osamu and other executives.

JIRCAS Research Achievements Recognized by FAO

To commemorate its 80th anniversary, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched an initiative to recognize “Impactful Solutions”—outstanding technologies and practices proposed by FAO member countries that contribute to agriculture, farmers, and food security.
Four research achievements proposed by the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) were selected for this honor and officially recognized by FAO.
