成果の概要

At Goettingen University I visited the soil science group to learn more about their work on rhizosphere transport processes and the effects of mucilage. I also gave a seminar to explain how our work on P uptake may relate to mucilage.
The main purpose of my trip to AfricaRice was to phenotype at set of NERICA-Pup1 lines in a P deficient field and to select lines for further development towards breeding lines that may eventually get released. In addition I had discussion with AfricaRice staff about possible collaborations during the next 5-year period.
In Madagascar I visited four field sites where our breeding material is currently being evaluated. Experiments will show whether our material is adapted to local conditions and may thus be useful in breeding activities for improved yield under low-input conditions typically practiced in Madagascar.
