Insect Symposium : Perspective on the utilization of insects for feed and food

In 2013, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) published a report, Edible Insects: Future Prospects for Food and Feed Security, to promote the utilization of insects for food and feed. This publication has raised global awareness on the potential of insects in diversifying diets and improving food security. However, research efforts and utilization of insects as alternative source of food and feed has not yet gained momentum among various sectors in Japan as compared with other countries. This symposium introduces the recent developments and research initiatives in this field in order to promote the sustainable utilization of insects for food and feed in Japan.
