JIRCAS Celebrates 30th Anniversary of TICAD with Official Side Event on "Building a Sustainable and Resilient Food System in Africa"

On Friday, December 1, 2023, JIRCAS held a hybrid side event titled "Toward Building a Sustainable and Resilient Food System in Africa" to mark the 30th anniversary of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

Report on TICAD 8 Side-Event “Managing African Soil for Food Security and Environmental Sustainability”

An official side event of the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8) entitled “Managing African Soil for Food Security and Environmental Sustainability” was organized by JIRCAS on August 30, 2022, with the support of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Dr. TSUJIMOTO Yasuhiro, Project Leader and Senior Researcher of the Crop, Livestock and Environment Division, received the 18th Japanese Society of Crop Science Best Paper Award for the paper titled “Challenges and opportunities for improving N use efficiency for rice production in sub-Saharan Africa”.

JIRCAS participates in the MAFF seminar on the "Power of Agriculture in Transforming Africa"

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) organized a seminar on the current status of agricultural research in Africa on August 26, 2019. The seminar was in conjunction with the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) to be held in Yokohama on August 28-30, 2019.

Dr. Belay Begashaw, director general of the Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A), visited JIRCAS on October 25, 2017 during his official trip to Japan.

Cowpea germplasm database focusing on grain quality-related traits is now ready for access

The “EDITS-Cowpea” project is one of JIRCAS initiatives that have been implemented to generate fundamental scientific information to promote better utilization of the wide genetic diversity of this crop in breeding programs and crop utilization. Based on the information generated through the project, we have created the "EDITS-Cowpea database" (http://www.jircas.go.jp/en/database/edits-cowpea/introduction).
