JIRCAS participates in the MAFF seminar on the "Power of Agriculture in Transforming Africa"

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) organized a seminar on the current status of agricultural research in Africa on August 26, 2019. The seminar was in conjunction with the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) to be held in Yokohama on August 28-30, 2019.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) organized a seminar on the current status of agricultural research in Africa on August 26, 2019. The seminar was in conjunction with the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) to be held in Yokohama on August 28-30, 2019. 

In the keynote address, JIRCAS President Dr. Masa Iwanaga introduced various research initiatives being undertaken by JIRCAS in Africa. He pointed out that JIRCAS is collaborating with international partners in addressing food and nutrition security issues and the development of technologies that meet the needs of farmers, in order to contribute in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa. 

Among the participants, Dr. Marco Wopereis (WorldVeg Director General), Dr. Matthew Morell (IRRI Director General), Dr. Ntranya Sanginga (IITA Director General) and Dr. Belay Begashaw (SDGC/A Director General) talked about multilateral initiatives in their respective organizations towards the common goal of achieving SDGs in Africa.
